Nunavut comprises a major portion of Northern Canada. The capital Iqaluit, on Baffin Island in the east, was chosen by the 1995 capital plebiscite. Nunavut also includes Ellesmere Island to the far north as well as the eastern portions of Victoria Island in the west, and all islands in Hudson, James and Ungava Bays, including Akimiski Island far to the south-east of the rest of the territory.

How are you doing? I know you must have been missing me this weekend. I am really sorry for not being able to turn up this time. I got stuck here; thanks to our air services.

You know that I have been travelling fortnightly from Cleveland to Calgary for business meetings. I got a call from my boss this Thursday who told me to reach the headquarters within 2 days as an important foreign delegation was coming to our office on 26th March. I tried looking at the train schedules on www.travelsafe.com as usual, but then I realized that the rail may take up to 3 days. So, I booked a flight for the same day in the evening, expecting that I would reach Calgary by early morning on 25th March and that I would get ample time to prepare for my business presentation.

I reached the airport before time and completed all the formalities. My flight was scheduled at 1700 hours and I had an hour left with me, so I thought of bringing something for Caren. I went to a duty-free store to buy a box of chocolates, as promised, knowing that it will bring a big smile on her face on her birthday. I’m still amazed that our little one will turn 4 on the 27th.

And I’ve got to tell you this – a rather strange experience. When I was finally ready to board the flight upon the announcement, an airport security personnel approached me and took me to the security room. I was quite taken aback at that time, but I agreed to let him proceed with the interrogation. They mistook me with one of the convicts in a legal proceeding. In no time they were investigating me and it lasted 2 hours. Nonetheless, the damage was already done; I missed my flight and unfortunately there was no other flight available till 26th March.

I felt so frustrated at the airport security services that they failed to even check the background before handing over the boarding passes due to which I missed the meeting. I called my boss and explained him the whole situation and he asked me to stay in the Cleveland office only as the clients could not wait for another day and there was no one else working on the Calgary project.

I am feeling so disappointed right now; I’m clueless! How would I make up for this business loss? I am also sorry that I missed Caren’s birthday celebrations. Please tell her that. Give my love to Caren. Yours,

A. Prince Edward Island (PEI) is a province of Canada consisting of the Atlantic island of the same name along with several much smaller islands nearby. It is located in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, west of Cape Breton Island, north of the Nova Scotia peninsula, and east of New Brunswick. PEI is one of the three Maritime Provinces and the smallest province of Canada in terms of both land area and population, but it is the most densely populated province.

B. Part of the traditional lands of the Mi’kmaq inhabited by indigenous people of Atlantic Island became a British colony in the 1700s and was federated into Canada as a province in 1873. Its capital is Charlottetown. Due to hunting and habitat disruption these species are no longer found on the island. Some species common to PEI are red foxes, coyote, blue jays, and robins. In 2008, a new ascomycete species, Jahnula apiospora, was collected from submerged wood in a freshwater creek on Prince Edward Island, Canada. North Atlantic right whales, one of the rarest whale species, were once thought to be rare visitors into St. Lawrence regions until 1994. However, they have been showing dramatic increases since 2014.

In a recent interview at CNBC, Chief of Research at the U.N. Food Agency, Andrea Roberto Sonnino claimed, ""Total food production at present is enough to feed the entire global population. The problem is uneven distribution, leaving 870 million suffering from hunger. The world food production will need to be increased by 60 per cent to meet the demands of 9 billion by 2050."" ""This must be achieved by increasing yields,"" he added, ""because there is little room to expand cultivated land used for agriculture.""

Corroborating this opinion Hugh Grant, Professor of International Agriculture told, in a conference proceeding, that ""genetic engineering provides a way to increase food production."" Owing to this reveal, it was interesting to note that worldwide, the production and consumption of food derived from genetically modified crops (GM crops) is rising rapidly. On the various platforms, many natural scientists and professors agree that currently available GM crops are the need of the hour while some on the other hand point towards possible adverse effects.

Harry Crate, a leading biotechnologist citing research on Bt corn that contains genes developed with the use of biotechnology, asserted that it produces its own insecticides. These GM crops, he pointed, not only have the potential for higher yields but also can reduce the expense and toxic exposure associated with pesticide and herbicide use.

However, there are others in the industry who have raised voice against the potential use and consumption of GM food products. Larry Bohlen, Director at Industry Reports Centre citing an incident concerning the Bt corn consumption said in an interview, ""About 20 health reports came in to our centre, and the FDA reports about 15 of them reveal that they suffered from an illness immediately after consuming a corn product from StarLink corn, a leading producer of Bt corn. The illnesses range from swollen tongue, stomach ache, nausea, to a couple of cases of anaphylactic shock. So, until it is shown that those health incidents were not related to StarLink, it is just too risky to have genetically engineered products in the market.""

Jane Rissler who is a senior staff scientist at Union of Concerned Scientists was also quite vocal about GM food. She said, ""You’ve heard industry say, for example, that there is no evidence that these food products are harmful. After all, people have been eating them for several years now. Do you believe that statement? Isn’t it a bit disingenuous? How would we know if someone had gotten ill from genetically engineered food if it’s not labelled? How could there be evidence if they haven’t allowed the food to be labelled?
